How it all began
Karl Heinz Dietrich is a family business. Still today. And we are proud of that! As with many companies, our story begins with a vision and an ambitious undertaking. The year is 1945, the location Ingenried near Kaufbeuren in Bavaria. The Second World War has just mercifully ended and Karl Heinz Dietrich and his wife Magarethe resolve to use a truck to transport relief supplies to the regions hardest hit by the war. This is the birth of our flourishing transport and logistics company - the recipient of Bavaria’s first IATA license in 1950.
Expansion around the globe
The second half of the 20th century was marked by expansion. In 1956, Spedition Karl Heiz Dietrich began to build up its sea freight activities. 1984 marked another strategic step in the company’s history when KHD established its branch office in Romania, which to this day is our central hub for warehouse logistics. Our warehouse space in Romania covers around 210,000 square meters, with some 800 employees on site. One year later, in 1985, KHD entered into a partnership with Delmar International to expand its network in North America and China. Between 1990 and 2010, Spedition Karl Heinz Dietrich opened further branches in Germany, Eastern Europe and Mexico and extended its logistics centre in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg.
